God Stepped In

Posted on Posted in Financial Distress

It was a beautiful sunny summer day. We were enjoying spending time with my parents. Nathan was taking a mini-vacation while our boys were at NAYC 17 (North American Youth Congress). While we were visiting after eating dinner Nathan received an email that brought our world to a grinding halt. His position was being eliminated due to lost funding by the state effective the end of October.  We were devastated. Completely caught by surprise. You see, along with Nathan’s job being eliminated our children would lose their opportunity to attend that college tuition free. Our son Anthony was utilizing that benefit and only has approximately one year left to get his bachelor’s degree. We were hoping that Christopher would also benefit from that benefit.  However, that was not to be.

Beginning that very evening, Nathan began sending out his resume in hopes of landing a new position. For the next three months he applied at numerous jobs, went to countless interviews, both in person and on the phone. Several times he was told they would be getting back to him for the next round of interviews that never happened. He was turned down several times and on one occasion was in the negotiation process of being hired when the company simply stopped returning the recruiter’s calls. With every “no” and every time the companies chose another candidate more fear began to grip our heart. Were we going to have to move? You see we had been in this very situation several years ago when there was a “bubble” in the IT field. During that time Nathan was downsized out of his job and no matter how hard he looked he couldn’t find another job locally to where we lived in Texas. We had just built our “dream home” about two years prior to this. So, he began his search nationwide even though it hurt. Our home went on the market just a few days after September 11, 2001. We had no idea what God was doing in our lives but we had to simply TRUST HIM. Our home sold within ten days and Nathan was offered a job in New Orleans, LA. After being there two years God moved us to Delaware!

“And the Lord, he it is that doth go before there; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

During all of this time GOD was right there! HE was building our faith! Every day in prayer He would reassure us that He knew right where we were and that He was in control of our future, we just needed to TRUST HIM! Every morning during our Bible reading it was amazing how God would speak to us! It was just what we needed to get thru that dark time. Our church was such a strength to us as well. It seemed like almost every sermon preached and every song that was sung was directed at our hurting hearts. God knows just what we need when we need it the most!!

“They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.” – Psalms 126:5

BUT GOD stepped in!!! When it seemed like every door was closing and the only thing left was a long commute that would mean Nathan wouldn’t be home much at all.  When it seemed like he was going to have to miss church and miss out on participating / volunteering at church like he enjoys…. God stepped in!!! Nathan finally received a job offer that he will be in the office some and working from home some. He will be home more for our family and he will be able to be in church. God is so good! He’s always right on time! Never early but right on time!! Just trust His word and obey! He loves us so much! We serve a great big wonderful God!
